ISno-Cones

Raised on the legend that her father died using the sacred Coraza to save her, twenty-five-year-old Lorna León has walked away from the failing rum dynasty and transformed its abandoned factory store into Sno-Cones, the Caribbean's wildest beach bar. She gives everyone what they need; when Jacques repairs her ruined kite, her automatic thanks is, "I'll pay you back." After celebrity photographer Mad Millions films her spectacularly failing to run across the sea, Lorna discovers he has bought the León empire and intends to destroy the Coraza on camera.

IIThe Dinner

At the family dinner before Imani's coronation, Lorna refuses to let Alejandro's death sanctify Mad's purchase. Rosario—the regent who loved Alejandro—wears the Coraza and, in a flash of grief and rage, directs the waterborne Current at Lorna. Carol catches the blow. Rosario tries to stop what she sent, hardens into amber and bursts; a transferred charge remains in Carol, crystallizing toward her heart. During the escape, the Coraza falls. Lorna has a clear way out but doubles back for it: Mad does not get to burn it.

IIIThe Ghost Ship

With Jacques, Lorna and Carol steal Mad's racing yacht and turn it into a blazing ghost ship to break a blockade. During the escape, Carol teaches Lorna an old León disarm: do not drive force away—turn it through. Later, in the tender's quiet, she gives the movement an image: a whale survives the weight of the ocean because she never tries to hold it. Mad turns their spectacular escape into further evidence, broadcasts seven true seconds stripped of context and offers fifty million dollars for mother and daughter. Their only lead sends Lorna through a black pool beneath the sea.

IVEl Rincón

In El Rincón, a riotous bar beneath a golden ocean, Lorna finds Alejandro. He heard her breathe before he died: "I saved you. I never bought you." But the only cure he knows would draw Carol's trapped charge into Lorna, saving her mother and probably sending Lorna to join him. He warns her of the danger while making death sound painfully like home: she could save Carol and finally stay with the father she never knew. While Lorna is below, Jacques gives up their location in exchange for medical help. Mad seizes Carol and the Coraza.

VThe Masterpiece

Mad stages his masterpiece: Lorna and her half-sister Imani must fight to the death for his fortune, the Coraza and the León empire; if neither kills, he destroys Carol's only cure. Using Carol's disarm, Lorna defeats Imani but refuses the killing blow. Offered the same bargain against a defenseless Lorna, Imani refuses too.

Unable to destroy what he covets, Mad wears the Coraza. It shows him the perfect image; he grasps at it, hardens into amber and bursts before his own cameras.

VIThe Stream

At Casa León's stream, Carol tells Lorna, "Don't die for me. Live." Lorna begins Alejandro's fatal transfer anyway. Carol clears as amber climbs Lorna's body. Trying to stop it only hardens her faster—until she recognizes the movement Carol taught her. Keeping one hand on her mother, she opens the other into the running water. The Current passes from Carol through Lorna to the stream and the sea. Both women live. Lorna has saved Carol without taking Carol's place in death.

VIINot Tonight

At sunset, Lorna repeats the kiteboard run she once abandoned for a perfect pose. This time she stays lightly connected, carries the pull through, lands and keeps riding. When Alejandro's voice reaches her across the water, she answers, "Not tonight."
